like previous years, the militant outfits of the northeast region have jointly decided to boycott the forthcoming Independence Day and called for a general shutdown that day.
A joint statement issued by all the militant outfits said this on Saturday and added that the boycott call and general strike was called as a mark of solidarity against Indian colonial occupation and military repression of the region.
The statement was signed by the anti-talk factions of the Ulfa, the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB), National liberation Front of Twipra (NlFT), Kamatapur liberation Organisation (KlO), the Hynniewtrep National liberation Council (HNlC) and the six other militant outfits of Manipur under the banner of Coordination Committee (CorCom).
“As the Independence Day approaches, we would like to remind that the people of Western Southeast Asia cannot tolerate national humiliation and insult as a result of promoting jubilation by the enemy in our land. The Indian Independence from British rule in 1947 was merely a transfer of colonial powers into the hands of Indian rulers who are connected to and work in collusion with the oppressive feudal lords, princes and global finance institutions. The subjugated and oppressed peoples of the region cannot have fraternal relation with the exploitative Indian colonialist,” said the statement issued by the organisations.
The statement said that the general strike will be observed August 15 from 1 am to 5 pm. The outfits have however, decided to exclude the essential services emergency measures, media and religious activities from the purview of the strike.
