Normal life hit by strike in Goa

Goa witnessed a peaceful but near total bandh with both the Government and the trade unions claiming success. Attendance at schools, Government and private offices was poor and markets and bus stops wore a deserted look and business activities took a hit.

"Public movement may have been limited because there were no private buses. It may have affected people. But we took every effort to ensure that there was no force used by the organisers of the bandh," North Goa District Superintendent of Police Umesh Gaonkar told The Pioneer.

The only incident recorded was that of a road block at the Verna industrial estate in South Goa, the State’s largest industrial complex.

Police arrested dozens of protesters who had formed a road block across the National Highway. The protesters were later released on a personal bond.
