No SEZs at any cost: Parrikar

Published on:

Reiterating the Goa Government’s continuance of the previous Government’s decision to scrap the Special Economic Zones (SEZ), even those that were notified, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said that the land allotted to them would be used for other industries now.

“The Government’s stand is clear. land will be used for industrial purposes (by the Goa Government’s Industries Department) only. The land cannot be given for SEZs anymore. SEZ is out of question now,” Parrikar said.

The Goa Government had decided to scrap the allotment of SEZ in a move that was upheld by the Bombay High Court at Goa, when it was challenged by the promoters.

The appeal of the promoters is now pending before the Supreme Court.
