DMK chief M Karunanidhi said here on Friday that his party would not extend any outside support to the UPA at the Centre. He said in a statement that the announcement made by the DMK on March 19 was final and there was no possibility of his party extending even outside support to the Congress-led UPA in which the DMK was a constituent for nine years.
There were reports that the DMK may come to the rescue of the UPA Government in case of an emergency. This followed the statements made by DMK general secretary K Anbazhagan and party spokesman TKS Elangovan that they would not topple the Government.
Karunanidhi’s clarification comes after Chief Minister Jayalalithaa alleged on Thursday that the DMK’s pulling out of the UPA Government was nothing but a political drama. She also pointed out that the DMK Parliamentary party leader TR Baalu, continued to be the chairman of the Parliamentary Committee for Railways.
