No place for riots in Bengal: Didi

A day after parts of East Midnapore district witnessed communal tensions between two communities, Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday came down heavily on “certain sections of people” for “trying to incite communal tension as they get allergic with the term minority.”

Though she would not name any outfit, the Chief Minister said she would not tolerate fanning of riots in Bengal which “some people regularly do” adding her Government had zero tolerance for riots.

Speaking at a Government programme she said “some people get unnecessarily irritated by the term minority” adding “these people try to bring communal element in every petty case they come across.”

Insisting that the majorities should come forward for the development of the minorities “in order to build a bridge between the two communities”, the Chief Minister said her Government was committed to the development of all the communities alike.

“Some people blame me for trying to ensure development of minorities only. But this is wrong as I am for the development of all the people as it is my constitutional duty.”

Banerjee’s statement came couple of days after reported communal tensions at Bhagwanpur in East Midnapore where the situation was said to be “under control.” There was no official statement from thesadministration on the alleged flare up.
