No NOTA effect on MP victory margin

Published on:

The debutant None Of The Above (NOTA) option failed to make any impact in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections. What is amazing is that the newly introduced option was not used most by the urban voters as it was expected right from the time it was introduced, but it was used most in the rural Assembly constituency of the Junardeo where a maximum of 9,412 voters preferred to go with this option that was followed by Amarwara where 8,232 voters opted for the option and in Bainsdehi 7,929 voters went with this option.

like the supporters of political parties and the candidates there was substantial presence of those who opted for NOTA option who were present at ballot counting venue in Bhopal - the old central jail. The importance of NOTA that is used for the first time in the country in these Assembly elections was of more interest for those voters who have rejected all the candidates contesting from their Assembly constituency is much more than the victory or loss of those contested.

The results of the Bhopal Assembly seats have amazingly shown that the Nota option that was considered to be used more by the urban and educated voters turned out to be wrong and contrary to that it was used most the rural voters and least by the urban and educated voters.

Over 19,000 voters of the seven Assembly constituencies in Bhopal district opted to go with NOTA option. However, this did not affect the margin of victory in any constituency.

Bhopal, constituency number 149 Berasia and more amazingly the least number of voters who preferred this option were of that constituency that is considered with maximum number of educated voters, Assembly constituency number 153 Bhopal Madhya.

The highest 4,453 voters of the total 1,39,872 valid votes opted for the NOTA option from Berasia Assembly constituency adjoining State capital while the least 1,992 voters of the total valid votes of 1,37,940 from Madhya Assembly constituency preferred this option.

The constituency that stood second in going with the NOTA option was Govindpura where 3,289 voters opted for this option, followed by 2,666 voters from Huzur, 2,503 voters from Dakshin-Pashchim and 2320 voters from Bhopal Uttar went with the newly introduced option.
