More than three weeks after the security forces released sketches of two suspected Pakistani terrorists, believed to be behind the gruesome attack on the Indian Air Force (IAF) vehicles in the Surankote area of Poonch district on May 4 no major headway has been achieved in ascertaining their whereabouts.
One IAF personnel hailing from Madhya Pradesh sacrificed his life while four others received multiple bullet injuries in the surprise attack.
The security forces while circulating these sketches had declared a reward of Rs 20 lakh for those providing information on these two terrorists.
Initially, the security forces detained several suspected personnel including overground workers to carry out a detailed investigation but to date, the perpetrators remain at large. Due to Lok Sabha polls the security forces were deployed on election duties in far-flung areas across the Pir Panjal region.
Sensing the presence of security personnel in large numbers the group of foreign terrorists may have been deliberately hiding and preventing coming on the radar of the security forces.
According to official sources, these foreign terrorists were using the ‘Secured Communication Network’ to remain in touch with their handlers across the line of control. So far the security forces have failed to establish any contact with these terrorists as they have managed to vanish after executing the terror attack.
