The Port town of Mormu-gao in South Goa, can now heave a sigh of relief after the Central Govern-
ment-run port agency on Monday, assured Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, that a recently collapsed dry dock posed no oil-spill threat.
Anxieties had been high in the congested port town of Mormugao, located around 45 km from Panaji, after a dry dock operated by the West-
ern India Shipyard limited had partially collapsed last week, and minor spillage of an oil-like substance from the dock had triggered an oil-spill scare.
But Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar in a statement issued on Monday said that every effort was being taken by the Mormugao Port Trust to ensure that there was no spillage of oil.
“Mormugao Port Trust Chairman has submitted that there is no oil in WISl dry dock, but about 100 litres of diesel is present in the generator and WISl will remove the same by Tuesday (May 23),” the Chief Minister’s office said in a statement issued here.
