No change in land policy

The Bengal Government is unlikely to change its land policy. Notwithstanding the industrial draught, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has once again made it clear to the prospective investors that her Government would not acquire lands for industry.

In a core committee meeting attended by top industrialists like YC Deveshwar, Harsh Neotia et al, the CM made it clear that her Government was not for projects involving large tracts of land.

The Chief Minister wanted the investors to set up factories on 200 acres and not more than that, those present in the meeting said, adding “clearly she was for medium size units.”

Various ideas were explored and “she gave her own views and shared information on the steps being taken by the Government for new investment”, Deveshwar said, adding the Government would come out with a new industrial policy in a month’s time.

Curiously the Chief Minister brought about some changes in the industry core group. She herself took over as the chairman of the group replacing Industries Minister Partho Chatterjee bringing in new members like Panchayat Minister Subrota Mukherjee and Urban Development Minister Firhad Hakim.
