The Nellore Municipal Corporation has formed special teams and taken precautionary measures, especially in flood-prone areas of the city, to deal with the impact of Cyclone Murasu.
Municipal Commissioner YO Nandan said all NMC departments have been put on alert to respond to any emergency. He said the civic body has identified vulnerable and flood-prone areas and is prepared to take immediate steps to prevent waterlogging and clear accumulated rainwater during heavy rain.
Nandan said flood relief and rehabilitation centres have been identified across the city. Residents of low-lying and flood-prone areas will be moved to these centres when necessary, and all essential facilities will be provided, he said.
The commissioner advised people not to stay in dilapidated houses or buildings, or near walls in danger of collapsing. He also urged residents to be cautious around electricity poles and large hoardings, which could fall in strong winds.
Nandan appealed to residents to call 0861-2356777 or 1800-425-1113 in an emergency.
