Chief Minister Nitish Kumar kicked off his “Nishchay Yatra” from Narkatiaganj in West Champaran district on Bihar-Nepal border and said that he would personally monitor the work on the seven resolves of his coalition Government.
This is Nitish’s 10th yatra covering entire Bihar during 10 years of his two stints. But this yatra would be different from previous ones. All the nine yatras had been supported by the BJP which was then partner in the Government and opposed by the RJD. This time however, the situation has reversed. Now the BJP being the Opposition Party has decided to oppose it while RJD, being a coalition partner, will extend support.
Accompanied by his deputy Tejashwi Prasad Yadav (RJD) and Revenue Minister Madan Mohan Jha (Congress), the CM left by chopper for Narkatiaganj where he inspected the Bihar Public Grievances Redressal centre before moving to Bettiah. Incidentally, Nitish launched all his previous yatras from the West Champaran district from where Mahatma Gandhi had introduced his Satyagraha almost a century ago.
In Patna, Nitish told the media that during the last Assembly election he had promised to implement his seven resolves and after the formation of the coalition Government it was included in the common programme for good governance.
“Two of the resolves are exclusively for the better future of the youths and one exclusively is for women’s 35 percent reservation in Government job,” the CM said and added that job quota policy has already been implemented. The other resolves included uplifting other sections and development of villages like construction of cemented lanes, power connection and tap water to each home.
“The resolve to provide power connection to each house will be implemented from November 15 as the survey has been completed,” he said. The CM further said, “Whatever promises we had made fulfilled in one year. We also made a historical decision of total prohibition and its positive impacts on the society are now visible.”
The CM would seek public view on these works and listen to their complaints and suggestions at Chetna Sabhas, that will be held at every place he would visit and personally review the progress of different schemes on the spot and by holding meeting with the officials, said Cabinet Secretary Brajesh Mehrotra. Top bureaucrats heading various departments besides the CS would accompany the CM.
The BJP has criticised Nitish’s Nishchay yatra and said it would expose it. leader of opposition in the Assembly Prem Kumar said that leaders and workers of his party would hold dharna and demonstration in each district headquarter. “This yatra is a total eyewash because the CM is taking credit of the Centrally sponsored schemes calling them as his own schemes. His Government failed to do anything in one year except patronizing crime and corruption,” the BJP leader, who served as Minister under Nitish, said.
