The BJP on Thursday accused the Nitish Kumar-led Government of being "insensitive" to the flood affected people of Bihar and not providing adequate help to them.
Addressing a joint-Press conference, senior BJP leader and Union Minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy and BJP spokesperson Syed Shanawaz Hussain made a counter attack on the JD (U)-RJD alliance, which has accused Union ministers hailing from Bihar of doing little to get central help to the flood-hit regioan.
The duo said there are not enough boats, boatmen, medicines, drinking water and food for people marooned in flood zones. They said boats cannot be provided by the Centre as it was the state government which had all the wherewithal with it to provide relief to the people of Bihar.
Rudy alleged boatmen have not been given their payments and generally the system was not functional in the state. The state administration is suffering due to the "battle of oneupmanship" between Kumar and RJD chief lalu Prasad, they said, alleging that "two" chief ministers are ruling the state.
Rudy said Bihar has faced more severe floods in the past but the kind of crisis people are facing this time has cause terrible anger among the masses. "The state government has been a total failure," Rudy
said. For his part, Hussain attacked Nitish for blaming Farakka barrage for the floods and said if he was sincere, then he should have taken up the matter with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee before taking up the issue with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The two leaders said they had met the union home minister and he had assured them that the Centre would provide all the assistance to the State.
