In one of the rare incident, controversial self-proclaimed godman Nithyananda on Monday underwent a potency test at the Government-run Institute of Nephro-Urology located at Victoria Hospital in Bangalore. After the Supreme Court dismissed Nithyananda’s plea, the State CID issued him a notice asking him to appear for the potency test at the hospital.

According to Dr T Durganna, Medical Superintendent of Victoria Hospital, the potency test was conducted under a team of six specialised doctors. He told the media that report will be submitted to CID officials in one or two days.

Bangalore on Monday witnessed a high drama over controversial swami Nithyananda.  He arrived in a private car to Victoria hospital in the morning and was accompanied by his devotees. He underwent all the tests for over seven hours  and was later taken to Forensic laboratory for a voice test in an ambulance.

Nithyananda underwent a potency test in a 2010 rape case just few days after the Supreme Court dismissed his plea challenging Karnataka High Court’s order directing him to  face the test. The apex court bench headed by Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai had on Wednesday dismissed  Nithyananda’s plea challenging the High Court’s order directing him to take the medical test.

The bench while hearing the case had on August 20  questioned Nithyananda for his reluctance to undergo the test, saying such examinations are becoming necessary day-by-day in view of rise in the rape cases.

The court had also questioned the police for delay in  conducting the test in the case relating to the sexual abuse  complaint against Nithyananda, filed by a NRI woman who alleged that she was repeatedly raped during her five-year stay at his ashram in Bidadi, near Bangalore.

The Karnataka High Court had on August 1 stayed the  non-bailable arrest warrant issued by a Ramanagaram court against Nithyananda and four of his followers in connection with the case and directed him to present himself before the investigating officer for medical test and to appear before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Ramanagaram on August 18.

It had passed the order on the petitions filed by  Nithyananda and his followers questioning the July 28 order of  the CJM in ordering issue of non-bailable arrest warrant.

In its July 16 order, the High Court had upheld the  2012 order of the CJM, who had allowed the CID plea to subject Nithyananda to medical test to find out whether or not he was capable of having sexual intercourse, and to collect his blood and voice  samples.

The High Court had made it clear that he should be taken  into custody only for the limited purpose of subjecting him to medical test and for collecting voice and blood samples, if  he voluntarily failed to appear before the investigating officer.
