After boycotting their examination and stepping out of the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Srinagar campus the aggrieved students have decided to relaunch their agitation in the national capital to earn justice from the Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani.
“We have been waiting for her (Smriti Irani) to visit the NIT Srinagar campus for past several days to address our genuine grievances but she chose not to visit us. Even MHRD team ditched us and failed to deliver justice. Now we have decided to assemble in New Delhi to knock at the door steps of HRD Minister,” a group of outstation students of NIT Srinagar told reporters in Jammu.
Earlier in the day they had also taken out a protest rally in Jammu demanding justice from the HRD Minsitry.
Our fight is against MHRD and all those who ditched us after we were beaten mercilessly inside the NIT campus, students shouted holding ‘tricolor’ in their hands.
“We are also demanding action against those police officers who thrashed us like animals inside the campus” the students said.
To support the NIT students AAP MlA and cabinet colleague of Delhi Chief Minister from New Delhi Kapil Mishra arrived here in Jammu and participated in the protest march along with the students.
The NIT students had organised a media interaction in Jammu Press club but some miscreants disturbed the same and prevented them from holding a formal press briefing.
Before the situation could take an ugly turn the local police authorities pacified the NIT students to avoid free movement in the market places and directed them to stay together to avoid any chaotic situation.
In the evening more than 500 NIT students who arrived here late Monday evening from Srinagar returned to New Delhi to launch next phase of their agitation.
All the outstation students had vacated their hostel rooms after boycotting their ‘Minor’ examination on Monday. They stepped out of the NIT campus after giving an undertaking to the college authorities that they were leaving the campus on their own risk. Meanwhile, the NIT students are expected to regroup in Delhi after a short break to launch their next phase of agitation. The students are demanding appointment of faculty members from outside the state in NIT Srinagar, strict action against the police officers who had ordered cane charge and removal of Director NIT to restart fresh innings on the campus. “Till the time all our demands are met we won’t return to our campus in Srinagar,” the aggrieved students announced before leaving Jammu.
