BJP MP Nishikant Dubey on Thursday raised in the Lok Sabha the issue of a TMC woman member allegedly using insulting language against him during a Parliamentary Committee meeting while the TMC MP insisted that the ruling party MP was absent in the said meeting.
The MP in question Mahua Moitra of the TMC has denied Dubey’s claim saying the BJP member was not present during the scheduled meet of Parliamentary Information & Techno panel headed by Congress MP Sashi Tharoor.
Tharoor said he could not say anything as “no meeting” took place.
Talking to a TV channel, Moitra said BJP members wanted the meeting to be called off and only nine MPs were present when the quorum was of 27 members.
The Government did not send officials to the Committee, she said maintaining it is a “contempt of the Lok Sabha”.
The BJP MP, however, accused the TMC member of calling him names during IT panel meet.
Part of his accusation in the House was expunged by the Chair.
“I want to draw attention of all members of this House. This is my 13th year as an MP and the way I was called.....at the Parliamentary committee meeting yesterday by a woman, by Trinamool Congress, I have not seen this in my life,” Dubey said, amid din in the House due to protests by Opposition over Pegasus and farm Bill issues.
“What is our mistake? Our mistake is in developing this country. We have worked as labourers, as Hindi-speaking people whether from Uttar Pradesh or Madhya Pradesh… we have worked hard. We have learnt sessions from Lord Ram,” Dubey said. However, Dubey did not name the TMC member.
As Dubey was speaking, Rajendra Agrawal, who was chairing the proceedings, adjourned the House.
Dubey, in a tweet on Wednesday tagged TMC supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, and alleged that Moitra’s comments show her party’s attitude towards the people of Bihar and the Hindi-speaking parts of the country.
He also said TMC MP’s language reflected the level of West Bengal CM’s politics.
Reaching on the issue, former Union Minister and currently Minister in Bihar Government Shahnawaz Hussain said, “This is an insult to 14 core people of Bihar” and RJD should break it’s ties with the TMC “in the interest if Bihar”.
BJP MP from Karnataka Tejasvi Surya expressed sadness over TMC MP’s alleged insulting remark against Dubey.
