The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is likely to visit Upper Dangri village in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir where a suspected Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explosion early on Monday killed a child and injured five others.
A senior NIA official from the Jammu unit of the NIA is likely to visit the spot soon to get first hand information on the incident which could be handy if it subsequently takes over the probe into the case, sources said.
As per the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), the NIA team visits the blast site to collect all preliminary evidence with the local probe agency if the case is later handed over to the agency for the further probe, officials said.
The NIA team along with the Jammu and Kashmir police officials will collect primary details relating to the incident, including the likely modus operandi of killings of civilians in two back to back terror attacks in the village. While the first incident occurred on Sunday evening, the second took place on Monday.
On Sunday, suspected terrorists opened fire on three houses in the area in Rajouri district killing four civilians and injuring six. In the Monday attack, a child was killed and five others injured after the explosion of a suspected IED.
"The (improvised explosive device) blast has taken place near the house of the first firing incident. Five people were injured. One child succumbed to injuries and another is critical," reports said quoting Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Jammu, Mukesh Singh.
The injured have been taken to a hospital and another suspected IED has been spotted, he said.
The Monday incident occurred between 9 AM and 9.30 AM and a number of people were close to the crime scene of Sunday’s firing incident.
Taking to Twitter, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said, "I strongly condemn the cowardly terror attack in Rajouri. I assure the people that those behind this despicable attack will not go unpunished. My thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families."
