The Special National Investigation Agency (NIA) Court on Monday convicted all 14 accused in the Rs 1,000-crore scam that shook Assam's NC Hills Autonomous Council and siphoned off funds meant for development funds to terrorist coffers. “All the accused were found guilty in the two cases and all the 14 were convicted under various Sections of the IPC and the Arms Act. The Court is going to pronounce the quantum of punishment on Tuesday," said a senior NIA advocate while interacting with the newsmen. The accused included Jewel Garlosa and Niranjan Hojai, who were the leaders of now-disbanded terrorist group Dima Halam Daogah (DHD-J), former chief executive member of North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC), Mohit Hojai, and a social welfare department officer, RH Khan. The accused had allegedly siphoned off funds meant for development works in the district between 2006 and 2009. It was revealed during investigation that crores of rupees were diverted to the coffers of DHD-J for procurement of arms and ammunitions to wage a war against India.
