NGT seeks reponse of MoEF, Delhi on climate change

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Thursday sought responses from the Environment Ministry and Delhi Government by October 17 on the claims of a scientist before the green bench that the national Capital has no State Action Plan on Climate Change on the lines of National Action Plan on Climate Change(NAPCC).

A bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Swatanter Kumar issued directives saying that last year all states and Union Territories had been asked to prepare their action plans on climate change in accordance to the guidelines of Environment Ministry and get them approved by it. Despite the deadline of July 23, 2015 of NGT to prepare their respective plan expeditiously, Delhi government is yet to prepare the same and get it approved. NAPCC is a comprehensive action plan , outlining measures  on adaptation and mitigation measures related to climate change that go hand in hand with development.

The plea was filed by Mahendra Pandey, (former scientist with the Central Pollution Control Board ) for directions to "draft, finalise and implement the State Action Plan on Climate Change on the lines and the spirit of the NAPCC."

It also sought directions for Delhi government to place on record relevant material and documents underlining the  steps taken by it to implement Action Plan on Climate Change.
