Even as Kerala CM Oommen Chandy was preparing to initiate legal action against Prime Minister Modi for stating that the infant mortality rate among the State’s tribals was worse than that of Somalia, two newborn babies from the Adivasi region of Kerala’s Wayanad district died at a hospital in Kozhikode late Thursday night.
The infants who died were children of Balan and wife Sumathi of Valad Adivasi colony in Mananthawady, Wayanad. Sumathi, reported to have been suffering from malnutrition for quite long, had been under treatment at the Government Medical College Hospital in Kozhikode, where the delivery took place, for the past two weeks.
