In an embarrassment to the CPI(M) and the seven-month-old lDF Government it is heading in Kerala, the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) on Friday registered an FIR naming the party’s central committee member and former Industries minister, EP Jayarajan, as the first accused in the sensational case pertaining to the alleged nepotistic appointments in Government-controlled corporations. As per the FIR registered by the VACB after a quick verification in the issue, Sudheer Nambiar, son of Jayarajan’s sister-in-law PK Sreemathi, another CPI(M) central committee member and MP from Kannur, is the second accused and Paul Antony, Additional Chief Secretary, Industries, is the third accused. In perhaps the first big jolt to the lDF Government that assumed office last May, Jayarajan, known to be a confidant of Marxist Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, had resigned as Industries minister on October 14 following the charge of nepotism in the appointment of Sudheer Nambiar as managing director of the Kerala Industrial Enterprises limited.
