With heavy rain taking a toll on the capital's harvest, North Delhi Municipal Corporation has demanded a grant of Rs50,000 per hectare for the affected farmers. Previously the corporation appealed to the Delhi Government and the Central Government to ensure due relief to farmers.
According to a report, more than 80 per cent crops in the capital have been spoiled affecting around five lakh farmers. Standing Committee Chairman of North Delhi Municipal Corporation Mohan Prasad Bhardwaj on Tuesday demanded from the Prime Minister a grant of Rs50,000 per hectare for the farmers of Delhi as compensation for heavy loss due to damage to Rabi crops caused by continuous rains.
Standing Committee of North DMC has demanded the compensation from the Delhi Government and the Centre by passing a resolution for the loss of crops which includes grains, cereals, vegetables and flowers.
"Farmers of North India have incurred heavy losses in this month of March when Rabi crops are ready for harvesting due to continuous rains and snow in the hilly areas," said Bhardwaj. He added that farmers of Delhi also have incurred huge losses as they grow vegetables and flowers, most of which have been damaged by the rain.
