In a bid to accelerate the long-pending redevelopment projects of Khan Market and Gole Market, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) on Wednesday appointed consultant architects for the same. The matter was approved in-principle during the agency’s council meeting.
The council approved the appointment of Sudhir Vohra as the professional advisor (Architect) for the Khan Market project, whereas, M/s Abha Narain lambah Associates is selected to revamp Gole Market.
The consultants will have to prepare detailed designs of the projects as per prior discussions, besides interfacing with various State authorities, informed an official.
“Both the consultants have been working on the concerned projects for a long time. lambah Associates has been engaged with revitalisation of the façade at Gole Market since 2006. Similarly, Vohra has been working on Khan Market building project since its inception. He has been liasoning with DDA, DUAC, MOUD and l&DO on NDMC’s behalf on this project,” added a senior official.
After lying in abeyance since 2011, the Khan Market redevelopment plan, in January, finally reached a point of consensus between the NDMC and the two traders’ associations. Similarly, the plan to turn the historic Gole market into a museum also got cleared on Wednesday.
