Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar said his party would contend to contest on limited Assembly seats in Bihar. Talking to newsmen before the commencement of party’s two-day long working committee and National Executive meeting here he said he would meet Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. He confirmed that under the alliance NCP has been given one seat to contest in the Bihar legislative Council election. The RJD and the JD(U) have shared 10 seats each and four seats given to Congress. “We have a limited existence in Bihar so we expect limited seats in the Assembly election too,” he said and added that party’s lone MP from Bihar Tariq Anwar has spoken to RJD chief lalu Prasad. “We will have a pragmatic approach towards the alliance,” Pawar said.
The NCP had contested about 150 Assembly seats in 2010 and the party had no alliance with any party. Its three candidates had won but later on they switched their loyalty to JD(U). All the top leaders of NCP, including Prafull Patel and DP Tripathy and other delegates from of India are attending the conclave which also coincided with party’s foundation day. Commenting on the attacks on Biharis in Maharashtra, Pawar said he had always voiced against it but after the drubbing in last Assembly election of MNS, such activities have come to a standstill.
