NCP: Pawar not in race, won't even contest poll

Rubbishing Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray’s assertion that its national president Sharad Pawar nursed prime ministerial ambitions, the NCP on Thursday said that let alone aspiring for the country’s top post, the Union Agriculture Minister would not even contest the forthcoming lok Sabha polls.

“The Sena president has been away from mainstream politics. That’s why he does not know that Pawar has decided not to contest the forthcoming lok Sabha elections,” NCP spokesperson Nawab Malik told media persons here.

Malik was reacting to Uddhav’s statement made at a Sena office-bearers’ rally on Sunday. In his speech at the rally, Uddhav had said: “… Sharad Pawar nurses the ambition of becoming the country’s Prime Minister, while his nephew Ajit Pawar desperately wants to become the chief minister of Maharashtra. But, the people of this State will not rest till they oust these two leaders from their current positions”.

Malik said: “Uddhav says he has no such (chief ministerial) dreams. He does not get such dreams because his party has no strength. He should take care of his own house before criticising others.”
