NCP MP warns of bigger violence

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MP and Maratha warrior Chhatrapati Shivaji’s descendent Udayanraje Bhosale on Sunday warned the Maharashtra Government that if it did not resolve the current Maratha reservation issue immediately, the situation would erupt beyond control.

Talking to media persons in Pune after participating in a conclave on Maratha reservations, Bhosale said: “The convenors of the Maratha Kranti Morcha – which is spearheading the agitation – would send a memorandum to  chief minister Devendra Fadnavis seeking an early resolution to the reservation crisis. Meanwhile, I appeal to the agitators not to indulge in violence or commit suicides”.

Bhosale, however, charged that the Maratha reservation issue had aggravated, with the Maharashtra Government having handled the issue badly. “My humble request to the State Government is that it should immediately resolve the issue, otherwise the situation will escalate further,” he said.

“We would like to know as to when musical chairs over reservations would stop in the Government. If you ( the Government) are not keen on giving reservations to Marathas,  please come clean on the issue.  I request the state Government not to make promises on paper. Please don’t let the situation will come such a pass that Maratha activists will have to turn into Naxalites to achieve their objective,” Bhosale said.
