Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan on Tuesday charged that the NCP had snapped its ties with the Congress ahead of the Maharashtra Assembly polls, with a clear eye on the Union Cabinet berths.
Maintaining that the NCP’s move to snap its ties with his party was part of a “game plan” that it had worked out with the BJP, Chavan said: “Through its move to withdraw its support to the Congress-led DF Government, the NCP has handed Maharashtra (where the President’s Rule has been imposed) to the BJP. The NCP’s move to sever links with the Congress was part of a covert game-plan it had worked out with the BJP”.
launching the Congress’ campaign for the October 15 State Assembly polls in the temple town of Tuljapur in Osmanabad district of Marathwada region, Chavan said: “The NCP withdrew support to our government for sheer political gains. They wanted to share power at the Centre.. After the Assembly polls, it will become crystal clear as to who joined hands with the BJP”.
Chavan came down heavily on the BJP-led NDA Government for going out of the way to take credit for the development work done by the Congress-led UPA Government.
“The BJP-led Government is busy inaugurating projects initiated by the previous UPA Government.. Has the Modi Government announced any scheme for farmers after coming to powerIJ How many development projects has the NDA Government undertaken so farIJ They are only busy taking credit for the development work done by the previous UPA Government,” Chavan said.
Among other things, Chavan said that his party, if voted back to power, would strive for providing “affordable homes” for all and making available safe drinking water for every village during the next five years.
