NCP expels Vijaykar Gavit for indiscipline

Published on:

The NCP on Monday suspended Vijaykumar Gavit, a Minister for Medical Education in Prithviraj Chavan Cabinet, from the party for allegedly violating party discipline.

Talking to the media, NCP spokesperson Nawab Malik said: “A show-cause notice was sent to him for indulging in indiscipline. However, transgressing the dharma of coalition politics, he continued to participate in the election campaign of the rival BJP. Therefore, we have suspended him for violating the party discipline.” Gavit comes from tribal constituency of Nandurbar in northern Maharashtra, where the ruling Congress has re-nominated its sitting MP Manikrao Gavit to contest the lok Sabha ticket again. Apprehending that Gavit’s daughter Heena Gavit would be fielded as its nominee by the BJP against the Congress candidate, the NCP had warned him that he would be suspended if his daughter got a ticket from the BJP.
