NCP accuses Centre of witch hunting with raids

Published on:

An embattled lalu Prasad got moral support from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Thursday when its national general secretary Tariq Anwar accused Narendra Modi Government of witch hunting and selectively targeting its opponents.

Even as BJP leaders and workers took out a procession and burnt the effigies of lalu and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar at busy Dak Bungalow crossing, Anwar said the move of the Central agencies like Income Tax and CBI against the political opponents of Modi smacked of bias. He was referring to the IT raids at the places allegedly having links with RJD supremo and the CBI raids at the premises of former Finance Minister P Chidam-

baram’s son Karti and others.

“leaders of national and regional parties who raise voice against the Centre and PM  are being targeted and implicated in cases. The Central agencies are being used for their political interests. This is an attempt to finish democratic voices,” said Anwar.

The Katihar MP and former Union Minister alleged the Centre put the corruption cases against BJP leaders under the carpet. He gave the example of Vyapam scam involving the CM of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan CM Vasundhra Raje Scindia in lalitgate, CAG report of rice scam worth Rs 36,000 crore involving

CM Raman Singh, Shiv Sena’s charge of corruption in Maharashtra’s irrigation

department.

He further alleged that even the Income Tax had reported that the then Gujarat CM (Narendra Modi) had benefited from two corporate houses on the basis of their diaries, a case which was turned down by the Supreme Court on technical grounds.

“Had the Centre acted on the people accused in these scams apart from lalu and Chidambaram no one would have suspected its biased functioning,” Anwar said.
