NCM letter to Bengal Govt on tossing of Sikh’s turban

In a new twist to the Sikh man heckling case the National Commission for Minorities (NCM) has sought a report from the Bengal Government within the next 15 days asking why the turban of a Sikh person was allegedly pulled off by the state police during a political rally.

The protest rally was organized by the BJP on Thursday when the police pinned down a Sikh man Balwinder Singh carrying a gun. Singh claimed it was a licensed gun and presented himself as the body guard of a State BJP leader.

In the scuffle that took place in consequence to the police bid to arrest the man the person’s turban fell off, police administration subsequently said. The man has since been remanded to police custody.

Acting on a complaint from Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga, a senior leader of Delhi BJP unit the Commission wrote a letter to State Chief secretary Alapan Bandopadhyay and DGP where it said “The undersigned is directed to request you to send a report in this matter within 15 days so that the matter could be placed before the commission for its consideration.” The letter bore the signature of NCM Joint Secretary, D E Richards.
