Navy to deploy ship to capture sunk vessel's photographs

The Navy will deploy a ship to take photographs of the Torpedo Recovery Vessel A-72 which sank off the coast of Vishakhapatnam on November 7. One sailor died and four others are still missing.

In an effort to find out the cause of the accident and the present status of the 110-tonne  vessel resting at a depth of more than 350 metres, the Navy has sought the help of Reliance Group of Industries. It has contracted a Norwegian ship for underwater photography in KG Basin, officials said on Tuesday.

The specialised ship is likely to reach the mishap site in the next few days, they said adding the chances of salvaging the damaged vessel are slim. The 30-year-old vessel built by Goa Shipyards limited sank, most probably, due to a malfunctioning seal of shaft. The seal prevents ingress of sea water. The Board of Inquiry is on to ascertain the cause of mishap.
