Navy cops bust fake recruitment racket, identify scamster

The Navy police personnel have ripped the lid off a fraudulent recruitment scam allegedly perpetrated by a man claiming  to be a “captain” of the Indian Navy, who lured young candidates with job offers as naval security guards. Identifying the mastermind behind the racket as one “Captain” Sameer Singh of the Indian Navy, the accused used a fake Ministry of Defence letter, indicating INS Kunjali, situated at Colaba in south Mumbai, as being the recruitment and workplace.

The investigations have revealed that the individual operated from Ambernath (East) in the neighbouring Thane district and used his location to transact money, uniforms and other required paperwork. The accused took money from innocent aspirants as application fees and for the issue of uniforms and fake Identity Cards, promising them jobs as security guards.

On August 2 2022, a Naval Police team conducted a preliminary inquiry into the case at Ambernath.

After the inquiry,  the Navy police lodged a formal complaint with the Shivaji Nagar Police Station, Ambernath (East),  requesting the police to register an FIR against the accused and  him at the earliest.
