Cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu’s plans to continue his television assignments along with the ministerial responsibilities may hit a roadblock as Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh has asked him to seek the Attorney General’s opinion.
“I don’t know what the Constitution says or the law is on this matter. We will have to ask our Advocate General to give us an opinion whether a person who is a minister can do what he wants to do. It will entirely depend on what the legal opinion and then I will bring it to Navjot Singh Sidhu’s notice. Frankly, I don’t know whether it is a conflict of interest. Once I get an opinion from them (advocate general and legal experts), I will have a chat with him,” Capt Amarinder told a media channel on Monday.
Punjab Advocate General Atul Nanda, who is said to have met Sidhu on Monday, told The Pioneerthat he was yet to look into the matter.
“He bumped into me…it was not a formal meeting. And the file regarding the issue is yet to reach my office,” he said.
Sidhu, who was made the state local Bodies and Tourism and Cultural Affairs Minister, had made it clear that he would oscillate between Mumbai and Chandigarh every day to balance out his government and TV assignments.
“I would work in the office till 3 pm in Chandigarh and take a flight to Mumbai and work for The Kapil
Sharma Show at night till 3 am and would reach here before you are out of your bed,” Sidhu had told the reporters.
