Governor Anandiben Patel inaugurated the 40th National Conference of the All India Naturopathy Council on the subject of ‘Indian Knowledge Tradition and Gandhian Way of Naturopathy’ at Gandhi Adhyayan Peeth auditorium in Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith (MGKV) here on Thursday. The conference was organised under the joint aegis of All India Naturopathy Council and Yoga and Naturopathy Education Centre, MGKV.

Addressing the conference, the Governor said that naturopathy is an ancient system of medicine, which is mentioned in our Vedas and Puranas. “Its emergence has happened with nature itself. It is not just a resource for the diagnosis of diseases but a philosophy of life. The effect of the Indian system of medicine was seen during Covid pandemic where medicines were not working while herbs and yoga made invaluable contributions in saving life,” she said, adding that Gandhi has been considered the first doctor of naturopathy in the modern Indian system of medicine. “We abandoned our traditional food tradition and started taking junk food and its side effects today,” said Anandiben.

Expressing his views, Chairman of All India Naturopathy Council Prof Shankar Kumar Sanyal said that the naturopathy system is completely based on Vedic science and it is also based on five elements of nature, in which there is no risk. “Naturopathy is very important in this era of environmental pollution,” he said.

While presiding over the programme, Vice-Chancellor (V-C) of MGKV Prof AK Tyagi said that Indian knowledge tradition is amazing which needs to be presented in the right form. “Naturopathy education is an important part of that knowledge tradition. Coordination with nature is very important in daily routine and food. There is a plan to conduct subjects related to yoga and naturopathy at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the university in the coming session,” he said.

The programme started with the offering of flowers on the statue of Mahatma Gandhi and ‘Rashtra Ratna’ Babu Shivprasad Gupta by the guests. The function was also attended by Shobhit University Chancellor Kunwar Shekhar Vijender, former MGKV VC and Director SHEPA Prof Prithvish Nag, Registrar Dr Sunita Pandey, Deputy Registrar Harishchandra, Finance Officer  Santosh Kumar Sharma and Registrar of Sampurnanand Sanskrit University Rakesh Kumar.  Earlier, the guests were welcomed by Prof Sushil Kumar Gautam (Director of the conference) while the vote of thanks was proposed by Prof NP Singh.
