In a major jolt to the anti-talk faction of National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB), commandos of the Assam Police on Wednesday night gunned down outfit’s commander Sandao at a place along the Indo-Bhutan border in Assam.
Kokrajhar Superintendent of Police Rajen Singh confirmed this while adding that an operation was carried out by the Commandos of the Assam Police based on specific information that Sandao and some of his accomplices were taking shelter in the area.
“The incident took place at Dhum Bazar along Indo-Bangladesh border in Kokrajhar district.
Three terrorists including Sandao were there. When our forces saw their movement, they were asked to stop. However, the terrorists fired upon our forces forcing us to retaliate,” said Singh.
“Two other cadres including one Maothi, an wanted cadre, was also injured during the gun battle which lasted for over 15 minutes but managed to escape taking cover of darkness,” Singh said that about 12 cadres of the outfit had entered the State recently to carry out extortion and fresh recruitment.
Police said that the elimination of Sandao will give a lethal blow to the outfit as he was also looking after the extortion and fund collection and sending them to the top brass like B Bidai, who is suspected to have fled to Myanmar.
Police said that one AK-66 rifle, ammunition and some incriminating documents had also been recovered from the slain terrorist.
