The Goa Police has arrested Nitesh Rane, son of Maharashtra Industries Minister Narayan Rane for attacking tool booth operators at a border check-post and registered cases of arson and damage to public property.

Rane’s eight other accomplices have also been arrested. According to the police, Rane was on his way to the State when his cavalcade was stopped and asked to pay toll as per a new system introduced by the Goa Government for all outstation vehicles entering the State.

A senior police official confirmed Rane’s arrest for arson and rioting. Enraged Rane along with his supporters tried to assault the occupants of the booth and tried to smash the boom barrier and the toll operator cabin as well. He was later picked up by cops from a hotel in Calangute which is operated by a company owned by the Rane family.
