In a further development in controversial Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) espionage case scientist, Dr Nambi Narayan has recently slapped a notice to the secretary, Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), demanding to revoke the exoneration order against former deputy director (Intelligence Bureau, Kerala) and retired Gujarat DGP RB Sreekumar.
According to Narayan, who was falsely implicated in the case, the MHA has blatantly violated the provisions of the law and maliciously and arbitrarily used them to exonerate an officer who is guilty of compromising National interest and responsible for colossal losses to the Nation.
“I have no hesitation in saying and say it with utmost humility and respect at my command that I introduced the liquid Fuel Rocket Technology in India in early 1970, when former President of India APJ Abdul Kalam was also working with his team on Solid Motors. I contributed to the Polar Satellite launch Vehicle (PSlV) that took Chandrayan-1 to the moon in 2008. The fallout of ISRO spy case led to ruin my entire career and in the process, nation suffered immensely,” said Narayan in the notice.
The espionage case which was later transferred later transferred to the CBI. The CBI investigated the cases with the help of the ‘INTERPOl’ and found that these were false and fabricated cases against all the accused including Narayan. On 1, May 1995, CBI submitted the closure report in the Special Court in Kochi.
Subsequently, Narayan and three others were given clean chit and freed with honor. The CBI reported to the MHA and Kerela Government about the shoddy investigation done by IB officials. The CBI in its report also proposed stern departmental action against “delinquent IB officials”, which also includes former Gujarat DGP RB Sreekumar.
The MHA on November 17, 1999 issued a chargesheet to Sreekumar for departmental action against him. Charges against Sreekumar include physically taking over the possession of the accused persons from the lawful custody of Kerala Police without completing legal formalities and torturing, ill-treating accused. Besides Shreekumar had not prepared written statement of interrogation in respect of two persons interrogated by his team, one of them was Narayan according to the notice.
