The mighty setback suffered by the Trinamool Congress Government in the Supreme Court in the Narada sting case should mark the beginning of the end of the Mamata Banerjee regime in Bengal, State BJP president Dilip Ghosh on Tuesday asserted.
“The reverse suffered by the State Government which is full of corrupt politicians in itself is an indication that the time is going to change very fast and one doubts whether this Government will be able to complete its full term,” he said.
Demanding immediate resignation of the tainted Trinamool Congress Ministers and MPs, Ghosh said “Mamata Banerjee must remember that she had resigned from the NDA Government after the Bangaru laxman case. We want to see the same honesty in her today. She will do well to make the leaders tainted in the Narada video tape case, resign their posts.
“But it is very clear that she will not do that because these corrupt politicians know a lot many secrets about her and may reveal them if she does not take their sides and if she forces them to resign.”
Incidentally both Congress and the left also demanded the tainted leaders’ resignations.
Earlier the Supreme Court had rejected the petitions filed by the State Government and other Trinamool leaders against the Calcutta High Court order giving CBI investigation in the Narada video tape case.
“This order is going to have a big impact on the Trinamool Government and it is going to bring about a change in Bengal very soon” Ghosh said adding the Congress and the left were trying to stand back on their wobbly feet after the judicial reverses suffered by the Trinamool “but they will never be able to do so as they have no organisational strength left in Bengal.”
Meanwhile furious, a section of Trinamool Congress top leaders is known to have demanded action against Rajya Sabha MP KD Singh for “stabbing in the party’s back” by allegedly funding the Narada sting operation in which journalist Mathew Sammuel paid kickbacks to top Bengal Trinamool leaders including Ministers and MPs faking as a prospective investor.
“If this person is involved in the matter then he must be punished for what he has done” a Minister whose name is not in the list of accused said adding however “this man was perhaps employed by some bigger political party (read BJP).”
However the other section of the party is reluctant to reach a hasty decision and they have advised Mamata Banerjee accordingly. “KD Singh may have been fooled into funding the sting. He was perhaps under the impression that left and Jharkhand leaders were being trapped,” another leader said.
The Trinamool leaders are also baying for the blood of Kolkata Deputy Mayor and MlA Iqbal Ahmed who had introduced the sting journalist to the accused leaders “without getting his antecedents.” Ahmed is the brother of former Union Minister and Trinamool MP Sultan Ahmed who also figures in the video tapes.
