Political critic and psychologist Ashis Nandy has settled a criminal complaint pending over an article written by him in 2008 after tendering an “unconditional apology” for his distasteful remarks that portrayed Gujarat in bad light.
Settling the case before the SC, Nandy in his apology admitted that his article “Blame the Middle Class” had hurt the sentiments of many as also the complainant, VK Saxena who is currently the Chairman of Khadi and Village Industries Commission. He deeply regretted his comments in the article published in a national daily in January 2008.
A Bench comprising Justices V Gopala Gowda and Arun Mishra disposed of the appeal filed by Nandy against the 2010 decision of Delhi HC refusing to quash criminal proceedings initiated by Gujarat Police.
