Nandigram firing: Didi flays CBI's clean chit to lF

Published on:

Rejecting the CBI report on 2007 Nandigram police firing that killed 14 people, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday dismissed the CBI charge sheet as it was “prepared at the behest of the Congress and the CPI(M).”

The chargesheet seemed to give a clean chit to the then Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee Government saying the police were justified as they were attacked by a 5,000 strong armed crowd.

It also said that the police had not gone to the village to acquire lands but to repair roads cut by the Trinamool-backed anti-land acquisition committee. The police fired 47 rounds of tear gas shells, charged lathis, fired rubber bullets before firing 10 rounds of “targeted firing,” the report said.

“This is a report made by the Congress bureau of investigation or the CPI(M) bureau of investigation” Banerjee said demanding a fresh probe into the firing. Only lesser policemen have been framed in thechargesheet while the bigger officers have been left out,” she said.    PNS
