NaMo's Mann ki Baat didn't breach code: EC

Published on:

The Election Commission on Friday held that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Mann ki Baat” radio broadcast did not violate the Model Code of Conduct.

In a brief order addressed to AICC’s legal Cell Secretary KC Mittal, it said, “The Commission did not find anything in the broadcast matter which constituted violation of Model Code.”

The Model Code came into force on September 12 with the announcement of assembly polls in Maharashtra and Haryana to be held on October 15. The EC heard the audio of the speech and perused its script before reaching the conclusion.

The PM’s radio address was meant to be a pep talk on shedding despondency and use of skills for the country’s betterment and prosperity. The Congress had accused the Prime Minister of misusing State machinery by broadcasting his public address ahead of Assembly polls and said it flouted Model Code.
