Plans of Telangana Chief Minister-designate K Chandrashekhar Rao to appoint an officer of the region as the first Chief Secretary of the new State seems to have run into trouble as none of the region's IAS officers fit the bill as they don't have the ranks of the special Chief Secretary
The rank has been given only to the IAS officers of 1982 batch and all the Telangana IAS officers were in the 1983 batch. While KCR was keen to have Coal India limited Chairman S Narasing Rao as the first Chief Secretary, Union Home Secretary Anil Goswami was reportedly pushing the name of another officer Rajiv Sharma.
As far as the Director General of Police was concerned, present commissioner of Hyderabad Anurag Sharma was tipped to get the post while the present Intelligence head of Andhra Pradesh K Mahinder Reddy was likely to be appointed the new city police commissioner who will be directly reporting to the governor.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister designate of Andhra Pradesh N Chandrababu Naidu has started putting his team in place. He has chosen senior IAS officer Y R Krishna Rao as the Chief Secretary while senior IPS officer JV Ramudu was likely to be the director general of police. Dwarka Tirumala Rao will be the head of the intelligence department.
Naidu was picking officers with reputation for clean image and efficiency or the key positions in his administration. Prasada Rao was likely to be the Home Secretary and Ajay Sawhney was like to be the principal secretary in Chief Minister's office. Naidu was also keen to have the top officials of his previous administration in advisory role.
