Nadda favours high quality counsellors

In the wake of growing conflict among doctors and patients in various hospitals, JP Nadda, Union Health Minister on Friday felt that appointing high quality qualified counsellors to communicate with the patients and their attendants will help ease the situation.

“This (violence between patients and doctors) is many a time due to lack of communication between them. The counsellors need to be professionals who are qualified in communication. This is important as patient load increases and patient-doctors altercations tend to increase,” Nadda said at the Platinum Jubilee celebration function of Safdarjung Hospital here.

Ashwini Kumar Choubey, Minister of State for Health said that doctors and healthcare should not be commercialised as doctors are still revered as god on earth.

He emphasised importance of ethical practices and compassion among doctors.
