A disclosure made by Elizabeth Antony, wife of AK Antony, the seniormost leader of the Congress about their son’s joining the BJP has taken Kerala politics by storm. “I knew about my elder son Anil Antony’s decision to join the BJP much earlier. This move was due to my prayers to Mother Mary of the Kreupasanam Marian Retreat Centre in Alappuzha,” Elizabeth told the religious congregation recently, the video of which went viral since Saturday morning.
Delivering the Holly Testimony in praise of “Mother Mary of the Marian Retreat Centre”, Elizabeth said the decision made at the Chinthan Shibir of the Congress Party held at Rajasthan that children of the leaders (except that of the Nehru-Gandhi clan) would not be allowed in party’s leadership position had upset Antony and their two sons.
“Anil, our elder son, did his engineering degree from India and passed out from Wharton Institute in the USA with the hope of working for India as well as Congress. Though he had great offers from US companies, he opted to return to India to work for the country and the Congress. But the party’s decision not to allow him to follow the footsteps of his father upset Anil. By that time I had turned to Mother Mary and entered into a covenant with Her for my husband and children. Antony had a series of ailments and was incapable of walking without help from others. That was why he opted to retire from active politics and returned to our home at Thiruvananthapuram. Subsequently he was elected to the Congress Working Committee and he is fine and healthy now,” said Elizabeth.
