Muzaffarnagar riots probe panel to get extension

Published on:

With a probe still underway, the one-man enquiry commission looking into the Muzaffarnagar riots, is all set to get another extension in order to enable it to come out with it’s findings.

The commission headed by Retired Allahabad High Court judge Vishnu Sahai was constituted on September 9, 2013. The commission’s second tenure expired on Sunday after getting six months extension twice. The commission has sought more time to complete its enquiry and will have its sitting here on November 26 next. Officials here confirmed on Monday that they were yet to get a formal Government order on the extension of the tenure of the panel so far. The commission had been asked to probe the communal violence that was triggered by the Kawal incident on August 27, 2013 and submit its reports in two months, but later the term was extended.
