Muslims need reservation not Iftar parties or clothes, Congress tells KCR

Even as the K Chandrasekhar Rao Government in Telangna was busy in preparations for the official Iftar party in Hyderabad and other district headquarters for the Muslim community and also distributing new pairs of cloths to 2,00000 Muslim families, the Congress party has given a call for its boycott.

Greater Hyderabad Congress Committee (GHCC) Minorities Department chairman Shaik Abdullah Sohail has urged the Muslims to stay away from the Iftar of the Chief Minister alleging that it was a ploy to divert the attention of the community from the real issues of its socio economic backwardness and promise of 12 per cent reservations.

“The Government wants to divert the attention from its failure to fulfill the promise of 12 per cent reservations”, he said in a statement. “Iftar parties and distribution of free clothes among a few poor Muslims are aimed at silencing the rising anger of Muslim community towards the TRS Government. KCR had promised to give 12 per cent Muslim reservation within four month after coming to power. He also promised to judicial powers to Waqf Board and made several other promises during the last two years. None of the promises made by TRS Government has been fulfilled. KCR is hosting these Iftar parties only to divert the attention from these failures,” he said.

Another senior Congress leader Mohammed Ali Shabbir also strongly criticised the TRS Government for the lopsided priorities in respect of minorities committee. At an Iftar party he hosted in Nizamabad, Shabbir told the Government that the Muslim youth don’t need Iftar Parties. “They need the power of the pen and they can get it only through reservations”, he said reminding the Chief Minister of his promise of 12 per cent reservations.

Chief Minister KCR was scheduled to host the Iftar party in Hyderabad’s Nizam College Grounds on June 26. As Eid gift, the Government was also planning to distribute cloths among the poor members of the community across the State.
