Muslim disenchantment with TRS on increase

Problems of Telangana Rashtra Samiti vis-à-vis the Muslim minority seems to be increasing. While disgruntled senior Muslim leader Syed Ibrahim has raised banner of revolt for not getting the party ticket for the Assembly elections, another Muslim aspirant of municipal election ticket has attempted self immolation causing a huge embarrassment to the party leadership.

Mohammed Hussain, a senior leader of the TRS in Medak district, poured kerosene and set himself ablaze after the party denied him the ticket from one of the municipal wards in Medak town. Medak is the home district of part president KCR. Mohammed Hussain who was with the TRS from its inception was dejected after the party ignored him and nominated Odaiah, a former BJP leader who recently jointed the TRS.

Mohammed Hussain was rushed to the hospital in a serious condition. The incident has angered the local people specially the Muslim community. TRS Politburo member Syed Ibrahim, who was sure of getting the party ticket from Mahbubagar Assembly constituency has come out in to the open against TRS president K Chandrashekhar Rao’s decision to nominate Srinivas Goud in his place. “Injustice was being done to me because I am a Muslim”, Syed Ibrahim told the media. “This injustice will further isolate the minority community from TRS”, he warned.

He said that KCR was making an entire community unhappy to appeas one individual. Rejecting the offer to be made a MlC in future, Ibrahim said that it would have been better if Srinivas Goud were nominated to MlC. Complaining that he was being discriminated against because of his religious identity, he said, “If I had belonged to some other community, I would have been given as much importance as T Harish Rao (KCR’s nephew)”, he said.

Referring to his defeat in the last by election to Mahbubnagar seat by anarrow margin at the hands of BJP candidate, Syed Ibrahim said that everybody was aware who and what led to the result. Many local TRS leaders had accused KCR of not taking interest in Mahbubnagar by election and not visiting the constituency. KCR has now issued an appeal to the Government employees and other Telangana supporters to support Srinivas Goud in Assembly elections.
