Muslim clerics in West Bengal are reported to have advised their flowers to keep the celebration of Bakr-Eid a low-key affair considering the muggy socio-political situation in the State, sources in the police intelligence have reportedly said.
According to reports the Imams have asked the organisers to keep Qurbani a low-key affair. Among the advisories, the people have been asked not to slaughter beef, or even carry buffalo, goat or other animals for sacrifice in covered vans so that they do not look offensive to people of other communities.
The people also have been asked to keep the sacrificial area clean, free from blood besides keeping post-sacrificial shindig a modest affair in order not to provoke others. They have also been asked not share pictures of sacrifice on the Net so as not to offend the people from other communities.
“These are the basic norms to enjoy mutually peaceful cohabitation. Mutual respect and understanding each others’ feelings are the basic message of Qurbani. You shun the beastly feeling from within you through Qurbani that comes by showing respect for others,” said an Imam of a mosque in central Kolkata hoping “the people will not respond to rumors spread by mischief mongers.”
