The All-India Muslim Personal law Board (AIMPlB) downplayed the statement by Shia cleric and vice-president Maulana Kalbe Sadiq that the Board would solve the issue of triple talaq within a year and a half and that no one should interfere in religious issues. Sadiq had opposed involvement of the Judiciary and Government in the affairs of Muslim personal law.
Board sources said that Sadiq’s statement should not be taken seriously as he did not reflect the official AIMPlB stand. The two-day meet of AIMPlB working committee is scheduled in lucknow from April 15.
In a statement at Bijnore on Monday, Maulana Sadiq had made a veiled attack on matters of Muslim personal law being taken to the court. He was also critical of the Modi Government for issuing statements on sensitive issues like Triple Talaq and Ayodhya temple.
Former Advocate General and AIMPlB member Jafrayab Jilani said on Wednesday that Sadiq did not mean to say that the Board will do away with Triple Talaq.
“What the Maulana said was that the Board will not allow anyone to interfere in religious and personal laws of Muslims,” he said.
