Murmu to visit Kolkata on July 9

National Democratic Alliance presidential candidate Droupadi Murumu is likely to visit Kolkata on July 9 to campaign for herself, State BJP sources said.

Murmu would go to Sikkim after meeting the Bengal MLAs and MPs from all parties in Kolkata. She is also likely to meet Chief Minister

Mamata Banerjee and appeal to her for her support in the presidential elections.

Banerjee had earlier pushed the opposition parties including the Congress, SP, NCP and the Left into fielding a combined opposition candidate following which former TMC national vice president and ex-Union Minister Yashwant Sinha filed his nomination.

Subsequently however, the Chief Minister said that had she known about BJP’s plans to field Murmu she would have considered supporting her as she had personal liking for women and tribal people.
