The services on the Mumbai Metro rail network were disrupted for nearly one and a half hours after a 25-year-old allegedly committed suicide by jumping in front of a Versova- Ghatkopar train minutes before it arrived at the Sakinaka station.

Following the mishap, the Metro Rail authorities suspended the services on the stretch where the incident took place, ran in short stretches later and resumed operation on a single track later. The normal traffic was restored 85 minutes after the incident.

“At 9.20 am on Sunday, a youth who appeared to be around 25 years of age jumped in front of a Versova-Ghatkopar train that was about to arrive at Sakinaka station. The station staff immediately informed the Sakinaka police. The body was taken to a nearby hospital for post-mortem and identification,” a Mumbai Metro spokesperson said.

“After the services were disrupted, trains were run in short loop and on a single track,” the spokesperson said.
